"Psychoanalysis does not aim at replacing the false, distorted, ciphered self-knowledge with the real one, so that instead of confused symptoms you immediately become aware of what you really are, or want. It aims at getting rid of this very need for self-knowledge, at enabling the patient to act without self-knowledge. The true task of analysis is to open up a void in the midst of our subjectivity. We cannot know the other, because the other's identity is cracked, open, con-structed around a void. In the very core of our subjectivity there is a void, an openness towards future. It is into this void that then alternatives, possible alternatives how to change your identity, are located. A rich life comprises not only what you actually do, or experience, but also all the missed, failed opportunities. I like to go to a great city, and precisely stay in my hotel, and don't go out.
